If you are looking to make reservations at a Bangkok Hotel, you need to be aware that the red shirt protests that are going on are forcing some hotels to close down and send there customers to other parts of the city.
If you are booked or plan on booking a hotel near the downtown shopping area around the Siam Paragon Mall or the Silom business district it is advised that you contact the hotel. This round of protests has been particularly unruly, and out of fear and safety to their customers, the hotels in the area are closing on a temporary basis.
There is no sure time to know when these protests will end. It has been reported that many of the tourist are worried about the demonstrations.
It is advisable if you are in Bangkok or traveling there soon to stay far away from any of these demonstrations as a safety precaution. People have been killed, including a Japanese journalist. There are grenade attacks being launched on an all too frequent basis and if you are too close to one of the situations you could be hurt.
It would be a good idea to book a hotel far away from these hot spots or avoid the situation all together and head to your destination directly, whether that be Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, or the like. Protests don't seem to be affecting these areas quite yet.
Reports from Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok show that there is lots of Police and Military presence there to thawart an airport takeover like what they experienced back in November of 2008 when the country was essentially shut down for over two weeks.

New Rail Link From Airport To Downtown
The rail link between Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Makkasan Train station in Bangkok is finally nearing completion. The construction has been ongoing for many years and is scheduled to finally be completed by the end of 2009, according to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
The project cost an estimated 26 billion baht and has taken longer than most expected. Testing for safety and train controls is currently underway.
The Makkasan Train Station is centrally located in downtown Bangkok, where many travelers will find their hotels. They will find their location a short taxi ride away. This is another option visitors have to depart from the airport. However if a tourist is lugging many bags, a taxi or private car may still be the best option.

Thai Police to Cooperate With FBI in Carradine Death Investigation
The Carradine family was reportedly asked the FBI to help in the investigation of the death of David Carradine in his Bangkok hotel room. Police have still not concluded if the death of the 72-year old actor, and Kill Bill star, was a suicide or murder - pending forensic information results.
Carradine's relatives do not believe his death was a suicide and have asked the FBI to work with Thai authorities on the investigation. The Nation reported that the Thai Police have not been made aware of any pending FBI involvement but would welcome the FBI into the joint investigation. For further information see the Nation online newspaper article.
David Carradine found dead in his hotel room at the Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel on Thursday. There were no signs of forced entry or foul play.
